343 Industries has given fans a glimpse of what to expect of Halo Wars 2's campaign with a new trailer released over the weekend. The cinematic, which was shown to attendees of RTX 2016 and streamed on Twitch, sets the stage for a galaxy-wide war between the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) and what one can only presume to be The Covenant.

The cinematic, which was shown to attendees of RTX 2016 and streamed on Twitch, sets the stage for a galaxy-wide war between the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) and what one can only presume to be The Covenant.

The initial information for the real-time strategy sequel revealed at E3 seemed to suggest that the main antagonistic force Earth would face in the Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive would be the beastly Brutes, but the new video clearly shows a Covenant Elite stood among them, implying that the events of the game take place prior to Halo 2.

The civil war that results from the two member races falling out in the aforementioned shooter forms a large part of the established Halo narrative, but not much mention is made of events that lead up to the original trilogy. This could be a great chance to flesh out the universe a bit more though.

Halo Wars 2 releases in February 2017 for Windows 10 and Xbox One, and will support the use of Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere feature.
