Bella Thorne’s meteoric rise to the Hollywood big leagues continues today, now that the singer-cum-actress has agreed to terms to headline Break My Heart 1,000 Times, a big-screen adaptation of Daniel Waters’ eponymous novel.
It’ll herald a reunion with Midnight Sun director Scott Speer, who is on board to helm the feature film via Jason Fuchs’ screenplay – best known for Wonder Woman and DC’s long-gestating Lobo movie.
The elevator pitch for Waters’ YA book champions a mixture of the melodramatic tenets found in The Fault in Our Stars with The Sixth Sense, M. Night Shyamalan’s supernatural cult classic. No word yet on who Thorne is playing in Break My Heart 1,000 Times, but we understand the story “is set after a cataclysmic event has torn the barrier between our world and the next, leaving Remnants — ghostlike essences of the deceased — part of everyday life. After years of quiet coexistence with the living, a Remnant sends a threatening message to a young girl, propelling her on a mission that will forever change the course of her life.”
Building on a strong string of roles across My Own Worst Enemy, Big Love, and the Disney Channel’s Shake It Up, the 18-year-old Thorne is fast becoming a Hollywood starlet you daren’t take your eyes off.
A headline role in Break My Heart 1,000 Times is the most notable hitherto, of course, but the actress has also lined up The Babysitter, Boo! A Madea Halloween and the Freeform drama Famous in Love in the coming weeks and months.Â
