A new one sheet for Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World was released yesterday and featured prominently on the poster is the fact that the film will be coming to us with Aromascope. It has been eight years since the last Spy Kids film and director Robert Rodriguez is now bringing us a fourth movie. This time around, he’s changing things up, giving us the film in 4D. The fourth dimension will be smell, or Aromascope as it’s known.

Available with both the 2D and 3D versions of the film, Aromascope will allow audiences to further immerse themselves in the film by offering us a chance to engage our sense of smell. Each audience member will be given a scratch and sniff card when they enter the theatre. There will be eight boxes on the card to scratch and when the corresponding number appears on the screen, you’re supposed to scratch the card.

Admittedly, it sounds like a bit of a gimmick and I can’t see it adding a whole lot to the film. That being said, it will likely go over well with the film’s target market, which is young children. The gimmick has been used in film’s before so it’s not anything new but like I said, the kiddies should get a kick out of it.

As for the film itself, I’ll probably check it out, just for old time’s sake. I watched the first three films as a kid and at the time, I did enjoy them. Whether I’ll still find enjoyment in the franchise eight years later remains to be seen but with a cast that includes two of my favorite TV actors, Community‘s Joel McHale and Entourage‘s Jeremy Piven, the film will likely have it’s moments. It does look a bit silly but I’ve seen the first three so I mise well check this one out.

Spy Kids: All the Time in the World stars Jessica Alba, Danny Trejo, Jeremy Piven, Antonio Banderas, Alexa Vega, Ricky Gervais and Daryl Sabara. It will be released in eye popping 3D on August 19th, 2011.
