Pokemon GO developer Niantic has been forced to postpone the launch of the extremely popular mobile game in certain territories due to various server issues, studio CEO John Hanke has told Business Insider (via Video Gamer).

Having been soft launched in Japan and Australia last week and North America thereafter, it’s been no secret that the augmented reality title has been suffering from a rocky launch period. Players who actually manage to log in have reported connection issues as well as mildly irritating glitches.

Hanke said the delay – which is confirmed to be affecting the UK and the Netherlands, among others – has come about due to unexpected server load, admitting that the folks at Niantic “thought the game would be popular,” but that it “obviously struck a nerve” with Pokemon fanatics the world over.

Unfortunately, Hanke stopped short of providing a new release window for the areas still waiting for the opportunity to go hunting in the real world for their favourite Pocket Monsters, but if you’re eager to jump in now, there are several workarounds that you can pursue to play Pokemon Go in just about any country.
