The Saviors Will Be The Walking Dead’s Most Sadistic Threat Yet

Season six of The Walking Dead ended on a major cliffhanger as Rick Grimes and his group learned that messing with Negan's Saviors wasn't a wise decision. To assert his dominance over them, the new villain chose one of the survivors to kill with his barbed wire covered baseball bat Lucille, and we'll no doubt learn more about him and his group in season seven (not to mention who exactly he decided to take out).

Season six of The Walking Dead ended on a major cliffhanger as Rick Grimes and his group learned that messing with Negan’s Saviors wasn’t a wise decision. To assert his dominance over them, the new villain chose one of the survivors to kill with his barbed wire covered baseball bat which he calls Lucille, and we’ll no doubt learn more about him and his group in season seven (not to mention who exactly he decided to take out).

Special effects expert Greg Nicotero is directing the premiere, and in a new interview, he talked in detail about how the show will explore the world of the Saviors.

“The Saviors, as sadistic as they may appear, they have a system that works for them. Yeah, they’re fucked up and they’re a little weird, but they’ve been doing this for a long time and they have a very large group. It’s not like it’s a pocket of 10 or 12 people. They have a good thing going and the most interesting thing about them for me is there’s mythos involved with them. It’s like, you hear about this guy Negan, just like you hear about this guy Rick, and you hear about these people. There’s a lot of that involved in Season 7.”

Nicotero then went on to discuss how word of these communities spreads and the way The Walking Dead is going to delve into how they end up interacting with each other.

“The nice thing about this season is you will get a chance to see some of these inner workings of these different worlds and these communities and really get a chance to see how much they know about the rest of the world. I think that’s a really good theme for season 7 which is, nobody really knows what the world has in store for them out there. So, the audience, just like these people, goes through these journeys.”

Based on what we’ve seen in The Walking Dead comic books, learning more about Negan’s way of life promises to be completely messed up and absolutely fascinating. Of course, chances are that the show won’t follow the source material too closely, but all the right ingredients are in the Robert Kirkman penned series for the show to take what’s there and do something really great with it.

Either way, we’ll find out more when The Walking Dead hits Comic-Con next weekend, as that’s when the first trailer is set to be released.
