In a deal believed to be in the six-figure ballpark, Warner Bros. has snapped up a new and indeed original rom-com that revolves around über-popular dating app, Tinder.

That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that Keith Merryman and David A. Newman – best known for weaving a modern love story around Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake’s Friends With Benefits five years ago – will chronicle the Worst Tinder Date Ever, a meet-up between two budding singletons in Los Angeles that quickly devolves into a night to forget.

Infused with action elements, it is, in essence a “date that spirals into a night of one disaster after disaster — and, of course, they fall for one another in the process.” Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan are the pair on board to produce, while Niija Kuykendall and Julia Spiro will oversee production on behalf of Warner Bros..

If you aren’t familiar with the Tinder phenomenon, the application pinpoints your location before offering up a host of potential matches that meet your criteria, allowing you to swipe right (yes) or left (nope) depending on whether they suit your fancy. It’s a gamified and arguably crass whirl on the modern dating scene, but it’ll be interesting to see how Keith Merryman and David A. Newman – no strangers to the rom-com genre – mine the romantic and comedic elements from such a fleeting concept.

Tell us, what are your early thoughts on Warner’s Worst Tinder Date Ever? Swipe right and hope for a match? Or swipe left with a resounding ‘nope’?
