Saturday tends to be the day San Diego Comic-Con seems to bear the most fruit when it comes to news, and several tidbits that will excite comic book fans happen to pertain to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. It’s not a major leap of the imagination that a show focusing on a superhero team would see the arrival of not only another superhero team, but a club comprised of villains, but it’s still exciting to hear about nonetheless.

Let’s discuss villains first because, let’s be honest, news involving the bad guys is always nice to hear. It’s been confirmed that the Legion of Doom will factor into the show’s second season, but don’t expect to see a traditional lineup comprised of the likes of Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Scarecrow, Solomon Grundy and others.

Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim explained how they arrived at the decision of choosing their masters of evil:

“For season two of Legends, we decided that the perfect antagonist for TV’s first-ever team of Super Heroes would be TV’s first-ever team of Super-Villains, recruited from the ranks of Arrow and The Flash’s deadliest adversaries. Being huge fans of the Challenge of the Superfriends, we’ve come to call this group our ‘Legion of Doom.’”

Given that, this version of the Legion of Doom’s roster will make sense within the context of the already established universe. It’s set to include Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), the Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher) and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller). I’m most interested to see how they’re working in Captain Cold, considering that he was a member of the Waverider crew and died a hero’s death at the end of the first season. This is a time traveling show, though, so the possibilities are endless.

As for the Justice Society of America, DC’s original team of superheroes, those said to be joining Hourman are the yet to be cast Stargirl, Obsidian, and Dr. Mid-Nite. Judging by the sound of that lineup, I suspect the show’s producers have been reading Geoff Johns’ Justice Society of America comic book run, so you may want to pick up some of those trade paperbacks if you want to do some research.

Be sure to tune in to The CW on Thursday, October 13 for the Season 2 premiere of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
