Jason Momoa’s scenery-chewing King of the Seven Seas may have only appeared briefly during that fantastic Justice League teaser – squaring off to the Caped Crusader in one scene and confronting mother nature in the next – but make no mistake, Arthur Curry is quickly becoming a fan-favorite whether he talks to fish or not.

Set for release in July of 2018, James Wan’s standalone Aquaman movie will be ushered into theaters in the aftermath of Zack Snyder’s ensemble piece, and in channelling his own experience in the genre, Wan has reaffirmed his plans to introduce a horror element into the “wondrous world of Atlantis.”

Word comes by way of /Film, which relayed Wan’s address to vying fans at SDCC’s Hall H. Check it out below and let it be known, there’s no question that the filmmaker is stoked to be at the helm.

“Fuckin’ Aquaman, what can I say,” as James Wan perfectly put it on the Hall H stage today. Wan was pumped to take on the film because “he’s never been portrayed in the feature movie world before.” The filmmaker went on, “The opportunity to explore this universe and bring a bit of my horror element to this, the deep sea, the scary world, and of course the wondrous world of Atlantis.”

On board alongside Momoa are Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe as Aquaman’s mate, Mera, and advisor, Vulko, respectively.

In related news, now that the script is beginning to take shape after Wan and Geoff Johns’ contribution, Warner Bros. recently welcomed the return of Gangster Squad scribe Will Beall as the sole Aquaman screenwriter. Look for the Momoa-fronted actioner to open on July 27, 2018.
