During his headlining slot at the Australian festival Splendour In The Grass over the weekend, future bass pioneer Flume dropped an epic unreleased ID into his set. Listeners were originally treated to a sample of the tune back when the Skin LP preview hit the internet for streaming, and many fans were understandably disappointed when some of those songs didn’t surface on the official release.
The unreleased track features Flume’s signature clanking percussion, offbeat synth splashes and mesmerizing chord progressions. It’s a seriously huge sounding tune, and it’s a bit perplexing that it didn’t make it onto the final version of Skin.
In an interview with DIY magazine, the Aussie producer explained the reasoning for some of the cut material:
I am a bigger fan of some of the songs that didn’t make it over some that did, but those songs didn’t fit, and there’s a definite feeling in all the songs that made the album that tie them together and make it flow as one. Those other songs are still going to come out, for sure, but as a body of work it didn’t quite make sense to give them a home on the album.
Knowing that some of those tracks will likely see the light of day in the future is a welcome update from Flume, and while we await more info, you can listen to the Splendour In The Grass ID in the Skin preview starting around the 00:22 mark.
