Upon announcing that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will introduce fans to the Ravagers, James Gunn confirmed at SDCC that Evan Jones, Jimmy Urine, Stephen Blackehart, Steve Agee, Joe Fria and Terence Rosemore are the actors on board to portray the dastardly crew of interstellar bandits.

Now, we have our first official glimpse at what those characters will look like when they storm onto the scene in May of next year. Taking to Instagram, the filmmaker posted a collection of black-and-white mugshots of his freaks and geeks, which come bearing the names Brahl, Oblo, Scrote, Narblik, Gef the Ravager, Kraglin, Wretch, Half-Nut, and Taserface.

Though Marvel chose to hold fire on showcasing any footage during San Diego Comic-Con, members of the press were treated to a presentation of some work-in-progress footage – resulting in scores of trailer descriptions surfacing left, right, and center. But if you’re holding out hope for said clips to appear online, don’t; James Gunn hosted a Facebook livestream to explain the thinking process behind Marvel’s decision to ensure Guardians 2 footage remains behind closed doors.

“Of course, I want to share everything with you guys, it’s important to me to be able to do that. But here’s the thing: the footage we released at Comic-Con will eventually be seen by the public but in a more finished form.

It’s very early days, we’ve only been stopped shooting for a month… The visual effects are not finished. I am a perfectionist. People who follow me know that everything needs to be exactly how I want it to be to be seen in a film, so that it stands up to repeated viewings.

“And the truth is this Comic-Con footage… it’s not something that I nor Marvel are comfortable with being out there and standing up to repeated viewings. The visual effects just aren’t finished. If I do something, I want to do it 100% correctly. However, to sit in the audience one time with an excited crowd and show them an in-progress piece of film, it’s a different story.”

Going toe-to-toe with those Ravagers are Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista) and a baby Groot (Vin Diesel). Kurt Russell, meanwhile, is on board as a humanoid version of Ego the living planet, along with Pom Klementieff.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is earmarked for theatrical release on May 5, 2017. In the interim, you can go up close and personal with those dastardly Ravagers via the collection of mugshots, below.
