Captain Marvel Star Brie Larson Reaches Out To Fans To Thank Them For Their Support

It's rare these days for any comic book movie casting decision not to be picked apart by comic book fans who have their own very specific ideas about how their favourite characters should be portrayed on the big screen, and everyone from Idris Elba to Ben Affleck and Michael B. Jordan have come under fire in recent years (only to quickly prove the haters wrong).

It’s rare these days for any comic book movie casting decision not to be picked apart by comic book fans who have their own very specific ideas about how their favourite characters should be portrayed on the big screen, and everyone from Idris Elba to Ben Affleck and Michael B. Jordan have come under fire in recent years (only to quickly prove the haters wrong).

It’s somewhat surprising then that the reaction to Brie Larson being announced as Captain Marvel has been so overwhelmingly positive. Considering the fact that she’s an amazing actress, perhaps we shouldn’t be all that shocked (especially as Larson won an Oscar just a few months ago), but it’s still nice to see a lack of the normal hashtags which have dominated social media in the past. After all, who can forget #BetterBatmanThanAffleck on Twitter, only for the actor to later be declared the perfect Caped Crusader?

Regardless, Larson has taken to Instagram today to share a heartwarming message thanking fans for their support since she was announced as the first big screen Captain Marvel this past Saturday at Comic-Con. When we’ll first see the actress in the role remains to be seen, but the Captain Marvel movie is currently pencilled in for release in 2019, so we still have quite the wait.

Woke up this morning thinking about the tidal wave of support I got this weekend. It was nerve-racking to trust fall into the Internet! I know who I am, but its wild how quickly you can forget once someone calls you something terrible. I was reminded how the acceptance of community is a deeply rooted need – but I don’t want to live worried people will hate me because I’m myself! We should all have the freedom to be our authentic selves without fear or judgement. It’s scary to chip away at all the hardness we coat ourselves with to protect that perfect little being inside. Yeah, people can be mean, but they can also be so many other wonderful things too. Let’s make this place a safe space. No hate and more understanding. To the followers that are new: welcome! Sometimes I let people take over my Instagram to share their views of the world. That’s coming up next. Thanks for joining us!
