Live-Action Life Is Strange TV Series In The Works At Legendary

Arcadia Bay is headed to the small-screen.

Days after we learned of a live-action Detective Pikachu movie setting up shop at the studio – buoyed by the landmark success of Pokemon Go – The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Legendary is partnering with Square Enix to bring about a Life is Strange TV series.

Said to hew close to Dontnod’s hit five-part series, which followed the curious mind of Max Caulfield and her eerie ability to manipulate time, it’s understood Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons of dj2 Entertainment will nurture the adaptation.

First released in January of last year, Life is Strange is a nostalgic, heartfelt tale of two best friends caught up in a dark mystery that threatens to bring ruination to the sun-kissed plains of Arcadia Bay. Its success was recognized in critical circles, too, with Dontnod’s adventure title scoring multiple Game of the Year nominations, not to mention a BAFTA for Best Story.

Greg Siegel, Senior VP of Development and Production at Legendary Digital Studios, released the following statement:

“Life is Strange is one of those rare properties that combines incredibly developed characters and storylines with deeply engaging gameplay,” said Siegel. “It lends itself perfectly to live-action imaginings. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Square Enix, DONTDOD Entertainment and dj2 to bring the world of Arcadia Bay to life in an exciting new way.”

If you’re yet to dip your toe in Arcadia Bay, Dontnod and Square Enix have made the premiere episode of Life is Strange free indefinitely, and it can be downloaded now across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Mac and PC.

It’s official: Life is Strange is bound for TV. It’s still early days, of course, with Square Enix and Legendary now sending out the feelers in search of screenwriters, but we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
