Meet Desmond Doss, the unlikely war hero and conscientious objector – that is, someone who is against serving in the armed forces – who headlines Mel Gibson’s upcoming war thriller, Hacksaw Ridge.

Awarded with the Congressional Medal of Honor in the aftermath of WWII, Doss’ death-defying tale is stranger that fiction, when he charged onto the scarred front lines of Okinawa without a weapon to call his own. Inexplicably, the defiant pacifist still managed to save 75 men all without firing a weapon and in today’s all-new trailer, we see Andrew Garfield charge into the mouth of madness.

Also starring Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths and Vince Vaughn, Hacksaw Ridge charges into theaters on November 4. It’s opening against strong competition, too, with Doctor Strange, Loving, Bleed for This and DreamWorks animation Trolls all penciled in for the same release window.

Hacksaw Ridge is the extraordinary true story of Desmond Doss [Andrew Garfield] who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
