Suicide Squad is still to hit theaters and already David Ayer’s posse of anti-heroes have all but cemented their place as household names.
Much of that, of course, comes down to the comic book star power of the Joker et al., but there’s no question that the sheer style and personality emanating from Warner Bros.’ imminent tentpole has upped their stock considerably – particularly among those moviegoers who perhaps aren’t as familiar with the lore as ardent fans.
Banking on their long-term appeal, it’s understood Warner is already planning a full-fledged sequel, not to mention a Harley-Quinn-fronted spinoff movie that is said to enlist notable female characters including Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Birds of Prey and fellow Skwad member Katana.
It’s something Margot Robbie is attached to produce, too, but what of the prospect of a solo movie dedicated entirely to Harley? While chatting with Tribute (via CBM), the actress hinted that such an offshoot isn’t out of the question.
We’re not sure. Just more of Harley. I’m just so not done playing that character and there’s so much more to do with her – and as anyone who’s read the comics knows, there’s a million different storylines to explore. There’s just so much you can do in the DC Universe so I think it would be cool.
It’s still early, early days then, and for now, all attention is drawn toward Suicide Squad. On the topic, Robbie is joined by Jared Leto as The Joker, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo and Adam Beach as Slipknot.
Suicide Squad opens on August 5th.
