Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Michael Keaton On Why He Returned To The Genre

Academy Award-winner Michael Keaton will probably always be best known as the first actor to don the cape and cowl as Batman on the big screen, and in next year's Spider-Man: Homecoming, he'll return to the superhero genre, except this time he'll (most likely) be playing a villain.

Academy Award-winner Michael Keaton will probably always be best known as the first actor to don the cape and cowl as Batman on the big screen, and in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, he’ll return to the superhero genre, except this time he’ll (most likely) be playing a villain.

In an interview with Empire Magazine (Via CBM), Keaton was asked what prompted him to return to comic book movies after so many years, and whether he was hesitant to do so.

Here’s what he had to say:

Not really. I think it’s going to be cool and I’m really looking forward to it. Tom Holland is a wonderful actor and, I’ve got to say, from the early conversations I’ve had with Marvel, they’re really serious about how they approach their stuff.

It’s extraordinary. You’re talking to a guy who basically knows nothing about the lore of that world. But my friend has two girls who are fascinated by superheroes. One in particular is way into them. I’m not kidding. I asked her about Spider-Man and she told me the movies I need to watch.

Though it’s yet to be officially confirmed, all reports indicate that Keaton will be playing The Vulture in Marvel and Sony’s reboot, which will see Peter Parker return to high-school for a series of Harry Potter-inspired adventures. We won’t know for sure how the actor will factor into things until Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7, 2017, but in the meantime, let us know your thoughts on Keaton’s casting in the comments section below.
