Teen Choice Awards 2016 Honor Deadpool, Star Wars And More

The recipients of each year's Teen Choice Awards are always an interesting combination of zeitgeist-harnessing franchise fare, Teen Vogue cover subjects, and legitimately strong dramatic work, and 2016's crop of winners proved no different. Held tonight at The Forum in Los Angeles and broadcast live on Fox, the ceremony found the one and only John Cena teaming up with former Nickelodeon actress Victoria Justice to host a night filled with performances by the likes of Charlie Puth, Flo Rida, Jason Derulo, NE-YO, and Serayah (of Fox's Empire).

The recipients of each year’s Teen Choice Awards are always an interesting combination of zeitgeist-harnessing franchise fare, Teen Vogue cover subjects, and legitimately strong dramatic work, and 2016’s crop of winners proved no different. Held tonight at The Forum in Los Angeles and broadcast live on Fox, the ceremony found the one and only John Cena teaming up with former Nickelodeon actress Victoria Justice to host a night filled with performances by the likes of Charlie Puth, Flo Rida, Jason Derulo, NE-YO, and Serayah (of Fox’s Empire).

More excitingly, the 2016 Teen Choice Awards showcased lots of love for a vast spread of alternately deserving and peculiar nominees, from Deadpool (woo!), Ride Along 2 (huh?), Captain America: Civil War (woooooo!), and Miracles from Heaven (what?) splitting the gold for Choice Movie across four different genres to Daisy Ridley taking the Breakout Star award for her appropriately buzzy turn in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

No one can argue that Leonardo DiCaprio was worthy of a trophy for his Oscar-validated work in The Revenant, but Shailene Woodley earning an award for Choice Movie Actress: Action/Adventure in the reviled Allegiant was a little more unexpected.

As stated, the Teen Choice Awards are known for their odd decisions and peculiar shout-outs. At least one nominee left very satisfied: Hillary Clinton, nabbing the ceremony’s first ever Choice President Award (we don’t really get why the Teen Choice Awards are addressing this either).

The full list of winners, including Movies, Television, Music, Web/Digital, Fashion, Sports, and “Other” (yikes), is after the page jump….
