The first gameplay footage for the arena shooter was unveiled at QuakeCon this week, showcasing the high-octane action and over-the-top weaponry that the series has become known for since its inception. You can watch the debut trailer above but be warned: you’ll want to be wearing your nostalgia goggles.

The description reads:

Packed with blazing-fast action and explosive rocket jumps you know and love, get first look at the game’s Champions – including new characters and franchise favorites.

In true Quake fashion, you’ll have an arsenal of powerful and unique weapons, each of which will feel familiar to long-time Quake players. There’s no loadouts, and no limit to the amount of guns you can carry.

Furthermore, id Software has confirmed that a closed beta for the arena shooter will be held at some point in 2017 so you can “see for yourself just how fast it is, running at 120hz with unlocked framerates.”

That may sound like a bold statement, but similar promises made for DOOM were largely delivered upon. What’s more, Quake Champions will be releasing exclusively on PC, which should give the developer a much easier time in regards to optimization.

A release date for the full game is yet to be announced.
