Denis Villeneuve Sci-Fi Arrival Rolls Out Eerie Full Trailer

Why are they here? Paramount preps Amy Adams to make first contact in the eerie full trailer for Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi film, Arrival.

Sandwiched in between the relative heavy-hitters of Sicario and the much-anticipated Blade Runner 2, Arrival is the all-new science fiction movie from Denis Villeneuve, and after wowing genre fans last week with the spooky teaser, Paramount preps Amy Adams to make first contact with today’s full trailer.

Here, the Batman V Superman actress will step into the boots of expert linguist Louise Banks, who spearheads a team of researchers that attempt to broach a cross-species meeting between humanity and the extra-terrestrials that have abruptly entered Earth’s atmosphere.

Their mere presence almost triggers a global meltdown, too, but Adams is part of a team that attempts to approach the aliens peacefully and ask the burning question – why are you here? Adapted from Ted Chiang’s novella Story of Your Life, Arrival also stars Jeremy Renner, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story alum Forest Whitaker, Tzi Ma and Michael Stuhlbarg, with Villeneuve aiming to double down on the human story elements that ought to act as a refreshing tonic to the effects-heavy action of, say, Independence Day: Resurgence.

Said Adams:

“This isn’t a graphic-novel universe or creating a new universe. This happens in our world today, as it exists. Not having to transport myself to a universe where superheroes exist, which is also fun, really helped me ground the character and the experience.”

Venice Film Festival will play host to the world premiere of Arrival next month, before Paramount ships off Villeneuve’s sci-fi flick for theatrical release on November 11.

When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team – lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) – are brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.
