Frank Ocean finally released his second full-length album, Blonde, this past weekend. The Apple Music exclusive also came accompanied with a magazine, which included exclusive photos, writings, and interviews, and was available for free at Ocean’s recent pop-up shops.
Perhaps the most intriguing part of the magazine was a list of “contributors” to the record – a list that featured the likes of Kanye West, Jamie XX, Kendrick Lamar and more, but the biggest name of all was none other than the late pop star David Bowie. While the Internet went ablaze to speculate just how Bowie was a part of Blonde, a representative for Bowie has confirmed to Pitchfork that he wasn’t actually a part of it at all.
Today, a representative for Bowie has confirmed to Pitchfork that no samples were cleared for the release, and the pair didn’t work together. The rep, who speculates Frank probably credited Bowie as an influence, did share a full-page photo tribute that appeared in the magazine.
Though it was quite the long wait for Frank Ocean‘s record to arrive, the general consensus is that it was worth it: Blonde is expected to reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart this week with up to 250,000 units moved.
