Marvel Drafts In Community Creator Dan Harmon To Pen Doctor Strange Reshoots

Marvel has sought out help from Community creator Dan Harmon to write additional scenes for Doctor Strange.

Community creator Dan Harmon is set to follow in the footsteps of his Greendale alumni (read: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo) directly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing today that Harmon has been drafted in to pen reshoots for Doctor Strange.

Scott Derrickson’s origin story may have wrapped principal photography some months ago, but one source close to THR claims that Harmon has been brought aboard for “additional photography” alongside Derrickson himself and co-writers C. Robert Cargill and Jon Spaihts. Beyond that, the exact specifics of those reshoots remain a mystery.

Either way, Doctor Strange isn’t the first superhero tentpole to ushered back before the cameras – nor will it be the last. Late last year, Captain America Civil War was subject to additional photography to nip and tuck Joe and Anthony Russo’s barnstorming blockbuster, and the final product turned out to be one of, if not the best entries into the MCU to date.

Reshoots tend to generate apprehension across the four corners of the Internet – one glance at the blowback from Rogue One‘s own production changes showcase how nasty things can get – but they’re not necessarily an omen of trouble behind the scenes. Here’s hoping Doctor Strange can prove those doubters wrong.

Doctor Strange will find Benedict Cumberbatch donning that lavish cape when Derrickson’s mystical feature looms over theaters on November 4.

Doctor-Strange

Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.
