Exclusive Interview: Margo Martindale Talks The Hollars

The Hollars, which marks the second time The Office star John Krasinski has gotten behind the camera, takes an honest and heartfelt look at family dynamics and small-town life. The story follows John Hollar (Krasinski), who has lost his way a bit and returns to his small hometown after learning that his mother (Margo Martindale), the backbone of the family, has fallen ill and is about to undergo surgery.

Upon his return, he’s reunited with his ne’er do well brother (Sharlto Copley) and ineffectual father (Richard Jenkins), as old family issues bubble to the surface. John also has to come to grips with the fact he will be a father soon himself, as he and his girlfriend (Anna Kendrick) are expecting a baby.

Our very own Matt Donato reviewed the film earlier this week and had the following to say about it:

The Hollars certainly doesn’t rewrite hometown drama, but Krasinski’s bright directorial personality is enough to avoid a generic, forgettable fate.

Last week in Los Angeles during the press day for The Hollars, we sat down for an exclusive interview with Martindale to talk about why she enjoyed working with Krasinski so much, the wonderful cast that he put together for the film, how she views the character and more.

Hear what she had to say in the video above and be sure to catch The Hollars as it’s now in theatres.
