Kanye West has always been known to have a flair for the dramatic when it comes to his live shows, but it looks like his current tour is taking it to a whole new level. The first night of West’s epic Saint Pablo Tour is now in the books and one of the biggest highlights is that the stage just basically floats in the air.

Fans expressed their confusion upon arrival at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis when they realized there wasn’t actually a stage to focus their attention to, but that the area was only an empty space. It wasn’t until the show started that West began to emerge from a floating stage that came from the ceiling, which was where the rapper performed for the duration of the show.

The setlist for the concert had around 30 songs in total, featuring most of his biggest hits including “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and “All Falls Down,” as well as some The Life of Pablo cuts like “Famous” and “Father Stretch My Hands.” Though the stage may be the show’s focal point, the production also included an exceptional lighting display that typically accompanies West’s performances.

It isn’t a Kanye event without a conflict, however, as West can be seen in videos shared on social media addressing the security detail at the arena. “The whole concept was supposed to be that they’re supposed to go wherever they want,” he says sitting at the edge of his sky-stage. An open floor underneath the stage sounds as if it could be a potential headache for security, but West clearly sees it as an immersive experience, and he isn’t wrong. Although, the fans who are benefiting from the stage arrangement the most are probably the ones who went the cheaper route and bought nosebleed seats, as they’ve clearly managed to have the best view of the show.

Whether or not the rest of the tour will turn out like the first night remains to be seen, but it’s sure off to a crazy start.

Kanye West will be continuing The Saint Pablo Tour for the next two months, wrapping it up in Los Angeles on November 1st.
