Early X-Men: Apocalypse Concept Art Features Elle Fanning Suited Up As Jean Grey

X-Men: Apocalypse introduced us to a lot of new characters and brought back plenty of familiar ones with different actors playing them, but two heroes that fans were really excited to see were younger versions of Jean Grey and Cyclops. Played by Sophie Turner and Tye Sheridan, respectively, they definitely made an impact in a movie which otherwise received a fairly mixed response.

Now, concept artist Greg Hopwood has revealed one of his early designs for Jean’s final costume and it’s quite interesting for a number of reasons.

For starters, this design definitely appears to be closely based on the one worn by the character during Jim Lee’s run as artist on the popular X-Men series in the ’90s. While the final few minutes of X-Men: Apocalypse did see Jean wearing blue and yellow, it definitely wasn’t quite as comic book faithful as the version below.

It’s also worth noting that it’s Elle Fanning in the costume, a sign perhaps that 20th Century Fox considered casting The Neon Demon star in X-Men: Apocalypse before choosing Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner. The actress has been rumoured for a number of superhero movies over the years, but she’s yet to say yes to any of them.

It’ll be interesting to see if more great content like this is released on the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse DVD/Blu-ray and Blu-ray, but this is definitely a cool look at what might have been.
