Though many feared it had slipped into 2017 after being abruptly removed from Warner Bros. Interactive’s slate, Batman: Return to Arkham has re-emerged into the spotlight today with a new side-by-side comparison to boot.
Designed to showcase how the current-gen ports hold up against their predecessors, there’s also confirmation that Return to Arkham will swoop onto PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 18. That’s almost a full three months after the compilation’s original release date – July 26, for those keeping track – but if the prolonged development cycle nixes any and (hopefully) all technical issues, then we’re happy to wait the extra few weeks.
Issues with frame rate and other glitches proved to be the main cause of concern back in July, with Warner’s official statement at the time revealing that, “after reviewing the progress of the project, the team at WB Games has decided to delay the release of Batman: Return to Arkham to give the team at Virtuous Games additional time to deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience.”
Batman: Return to Arkham is being handled by Chinese studio Virtuous, with creative oversight from Rocksteady the founding father of the Arkham series. It bundles together both Arkham Asylum and its acclaimed sequel Batman: Arkham City, and you’ll be able to see the improvements made via the comparison video above.
It should also be noted that neither Arkham Knight nor Warner Bros. Montreal’s Arkham Origins will be included in the package when it finally releases on October 18.
