The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut Molly’s Game has potentially made room for one more, now that Michael Cera is on the verge of entering the world of high-stakes poker. Should negotiations prove fruitful, the actor will join a cast that already boasts Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba.
An adaptation of Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker, Sorkin’s biopic chronicles the remarkable story of Molly Bloom (Chastain), a former Olympic skier who uproots for the bright lights of Los Angeles after her dreams of competing for gold are left in tatters. Upon arriving on the West Coast, Bloom lands a waitressing gig to make ends meet.
But Molly’s Game really kicks into gear when Chastain’s title character goes on to form an underground poker ring catering to the Hollywood elite. Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire were said to be among the power players that sat around the table, before Bloom was ultimately arrested by the FBI some years later. According to THR, Michael Cera has landed the mysterious role of Player X.
Before rolling the dice for Sorkin’s directing debut, Cera’s roles are much more flamboyant. Sausage Party, for instance, had him voice the part of Barry, a deformed sausage and friend to Seth Rogen’s Frank. He’ll then be operating under Will Arnett’s Caped Crusader as Robin when The LEGO Batman Movie checks into theaters on February 10, 2017.
Molly’s Game, meanwhile, is without a theatrical release date at the time of writing. Regardless, Aaron Sorkin has assembled an enviable roster of talent, and we can’t wait to see Chastain, Elba and Cera share the screen in due time.
