Mel Gibson Is Not The Biggest Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Fan

Mel Gibson may not be the most popular guy, but pretty much everyone is in agreement that that man is a hell of a filmmaker, and for this reason alone comic book movie fans have always been curious if he’d every consider trying his hand at the superhero genre.

During a Q&A after the Venice Film Festival premiere of Hacksaw Ridge, Deadline asked the director for his thoughts on the current state of the Hollywood blockbuster, and he didn’t mince his words – with Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, in particular, earning Gibson’s ire.

“I look at them and scratch my head. I’m really baffled by it. I think there’s a lot of waste but maybe if I did one of those things with the green screens I’d find out different. I don’t know. Maybe they do cost that much. I don’t know. It seems to me that you could do it for less. If you’re spending outrageous amounts of money, $180 million or more, I don’t know how you make it back after the tax man gets you, and after you give half to the exhibitors. What did they spend on ‘Batman v Superman’ that they’re admitting to? And it’s a piece of shit.”

Don’t hold back there, Mel. There was a rumor going around a good while ago that Gibson was being courted by Robert Downey Jr. to helm a fourth Iron Man movie, but even if there was some truth to that, based on the man’s comments here, it’s highly unlikely that he’d even entertain the idea.

“I’m not interested in the stuff. Do you know what the difference between real superheroes and comic book superheroes is? Real superheroes didn’t wear spandex. So I don’t know. Spandex must cost a lot.”

Batman V Superman definitely had some big problems, but would you agree with Gibson here, or is he being too harsh? Drop us a comment below with your thoughts!
