If Ava DuVernay (Selma) and Disney’s adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time was already shaping up nicely – producer/star Oprah Winfrey has already inked a deal to star – The Hollywood Reporter brings word of a potential two-fold casting coup now that Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon have entered negotiations.

Mining Madeleine L’Engle’s classic children’s book for inspiration, A Wrinkle in Time is being readied for the big screen treatment by Frozen scribe Jennifer Lee and chronicles the fantastical journey of three “mysterious astral travellers” known as Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Who. Together, they lend a helping hand to Meg and her genius 5-year-old brother Charles Wallace, catapulting them on a remarkable quest through space and time to find their wayward father.

A brilliant scientist in his own right, it appears that Mr. Murry’s research has proven successful beyond all expectations, as Meg, Charles and those three divine beings touch down on a planet called Camazotz. It’s a spellbinding story that landed L’Engle the coveted Newbery Medal soon after publication – now, A Wrinkle in Time is bound for the silver screen.

With Oprah Winfrey on board to play Mrs. Which, the potential additions of Kaling (Mrs. Who) and Witherspoon (Mrs. Whatsit) all but complet Ava DuVernay’s preliminary cast. THR notes that the Powers That Be are eyeing a November start in Los Angeles, which would align A Wrinkle in Time for theatrical release in the latter stages of 2017. Just in time for awards season, then.
