Tom Hanks is receiving rave reviews for his performance in Clint Eastwood’s Sully, and the signs are all pointing to the movie being a hit at the North American box office this weekend. Like Bridge of Spies before it, that serves as further proof that audiences love the actor, and they may soon have another film to root for him in with Greyhound.

The World War II drama will take the Captain Phillips star back to sea as he’ll play a career officer finally given command of a Navy destroyer, who along with the enemy fights his self doubts and personal demons to prove he belongs. In case you’re wondering about the significance of the title Greyhound, that’s the name of the ship which he’ll be in charge of.

In addition to Hanks’ potential involvement, the film also has a director in the form of Get Low‘s Aaron Schneider. Perhaps the biggest news here though is the fact that Hanks himself wrote the screenplay, so the chances of him starring in the movie are obviously very, very good as a result of that.

Greyhound has yet to secure a release date, but with Tom Hanks now circling the lead role, we’ll surely get some more concrete updates soon.
