Upon doing the press rounds for Arrival, Amy Adam noted that Justice League is shaping up to be a "totally different film" to Batman V Superman.

Thanks to both Nocturnal Animals (check out our review) and the Denis Villeneuve sci-fi flick Arrival, Toronto’s ongoing film festival is shaping up to be fairly massive for one Amy Adams. In previewing the event, Variety hosted the Batman V Superman star to discuss her upcoming slate, along with her early impressions of the DC Extended Universe.

Without question, the one tidbit that will pique the curiosity of comic book fans involves Justice League, which Adams claimed is shaping up to be “a totally different film” to Zack Snyder’s widely derided Dawn of Justice. “Everyone’s really excited,” the actress revealed about the active production, before circling back to Batman V Superman to give her own two cents about those scathing reviews.

Pigeonholed early on for its messy plot structure and pacing problems, Zack Snyder’s monolithic tentpole seemed to be fighting a losing battle as soon as the review embargo lifted, and here Amy Adams expressed some sympathy for the filmmaker, noting that: “I just felt for Zack. Zack’s like the nicest person ever, and to see him kind of talked about like that was really hard for me, because he’s really such a respectful director.”

Either way, that critical consensus didn’t fall on deaf ears, now that Ben Affleck has been elected executive producer of Justice League to inject a renewed sense of purpose into the ensemble feature. It’s a change of tact we laid eyes on via the Comic-Con teaser, but whether that carries over to the final feature will be told in time.

Justice League, emerging from something of a creative overhaul at Warner Bros., is booked in to arrive in theaters as a sole blockbuster on November 17, 2017.
