Rising star Storm Reid may have enjoyed a small role in the unanimously praised 12 Years a Slave, but The Hollywood Reporter brings news that the young actress’ career is headed for the stratosphere after landing a starring role in Disney and Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time.

Lifting inspiration from Madeleine L’Engle’s classic children’s book of the same name, the House of Mouse has spent much of the initial casting spree locking down the supporting parts, after Oprah Winfrey and, more recently, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon climbed on board. Together, they’ll form three parts of a supernatural trio who help guide our heroes on their interplanetary journey through time and space and are known as Mrs. Whatsit (Witherspoon), Mrs. Who (Kaling) and Mrs. Which (Winfrey).

Reid, meanwhile, has become attached to the part of Meg Murry, an ever-curious young girl who struggles to come to terms with the sudden disappearance of her scientist father, who fell off the radar soon after working on a clandestine government project known as a tesseract. But Interstellar this is not, and Murry then spearheads a hunt for her wayward old man along with her schoolmate and younger brother, and THR notes that the studio is currently on the hunt for a nonwhite actor to play the former, Calvin O’Keefe. That’s a progressive line of thinking we can certainly get behind, given that it’s often the case that Hollywood studios opt to cast white actors in nonwhite roles, as opposed to the other way around.

Eyeing a late 2017 release, we understand that the House of Mouse has staked out a production start date in November, at which point we’ll surely have a complete overview of Disney’s cast for A Wrinkle in Time.
