Few of the new releases lining the slates for both TIFF 2016 and Venice Film Festival enjoyed quite the worldwide premiere as Tom Ford’s upcoming thriller Nocturnal Animals did. Lauded with praise from our own Darren Ruecker, who championed the feature as “two dazzling stories that combine for one powerful movie experience,” Ford’s pic even nabbed the coveted Grand Jury Prize at Venice and it’s with great excitement that we bring you the very first teaser trailer.

At only 20 seconds in length – 16 of which contain actual footage – this blink-and-you’ll-miss-it snippet emerges from the night ahead of tomorrow’s full trailer reveal, and is really designed to spotlight Ford’s ensemble cast.

Anchoring Nocturnal Animals in central roles are Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal – on board to play Susan and Edward, respectively – as a divorced couple. Since their relationship took a turn for the worse, the former is now a happily-married woman who has comfortably put some distance between her new family and the estranged Edward. But Susan’s past comes knocking when a twisted revenge plot surfaces and yes, you can color us very, very intrigued.

Much of that excitement stems from Adams’ role at the heart of Nocturnal Animals, while Gyllenhaal has displayed a remarkable intensity across the one-two punch of Prisoners and Nightcrawler. Armie Hammer, a wild-looking Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Shannon, and Laura Linney round out the casting docket.

Nocturnal Animals is due to make its bow in select cities come November 18. It’ll then expand nationwide on December 9, just in time for the Oscar race getting underway.
