Title tracks for albums are important – they more or less represent the purpose or the deeper meaning of a record. While an album is never obligated to have one, there’s a certain sense of respect for the artists who decide to go for it. They’re basically promoting an entire album with one simple song, because if anyone hears it, they’ll automatically associate the two together.
So, when a title track comes out as a promo single, it’s worth getting excited for the full thing if the song ends up being pretty good. That’s now the case with Kings of Leon, who just debuted the music video for the title track off their new album, Walls.
Over the past month or so, we’ve already seen Kings of Leon’s foray into a more polished pop sound with the lead radio single “Waste a Moment” and the live debut of “Around the World,” but “Walls” shows everyone the bigger picture. “Walls” is a strong and intimate ballad with not much more to it than a nice acoustic guitar line – but sometimes, there’s beauty in simplicity. The music video follows the nature of the song as the clip is solely focused on frontman Caleb Followill and his performance in a dimly lit room, until “the walls come down,” revealing his journey on a city highway.
Walls, Kings of Leon’s seventh full-length album, will arrive on October 14th via RCA Records. The album was produced by Grammy Award winning songwriter/producer Markus Dravs, and it’s obvious from listening to the recent songs that the band’s new producing partner has brought out a fire that has never been heard from them before.
