Cool new robots, cool new cast members and some cool new Dinobots are just some of the reasons to get excited about Transformers: The Last Knight, according to Mark Wahlberg. However that may be, Michael Bay’s blockbuster sequel has found itself in a spot of hot water.
First up, Wahlberg’s comments. Hosting a Facebook Q&A to champion the release of Deepwater Horizon (via ScreenRant), the actor may have danced around core plot points to confirm a few things that we already know – such as Anthony Hopkins’ role – but he also teased that fans of all things Transformers “are really going to go crazy for the Mini-Dinobots.”
Per Facebook:
“[Transformers: The Last Knight] is a cool new story, it’s kind of like a man on the run. Sir Anthony Hopkins is also in the film. We got a cool new cast, cool new robots, cool new villains and some cool new Dinobots. I think you guys are really going to go crazy for the Mini-Dinobots.”
Currently deep in production ahead of its marquee release next summer, Transformers: The Last Knight sparked outrage after using Blenheim Palace – home of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill – to film some form of Nazi assembly replete with massive swastika flags, German military equipment and SS troopers occupying the grounds. Not a filmmaker known for his subtlety, Michael Bay came under fire for said sequence, after Veteran’s Association UK spokesperson Tony Hayes told Variety that, “it’s a total disgrace. Blenheim is the ancestral home of our wartime leader. A lot of the older generation find it totally appalling. It’s an insult.”
Addressing that controversy head-on, Bay played down The Last Knight‘s usage of Churchill’s home, stating that, “people have not been fortunate enough to read the script and they don’t know that Churchill in this movie is a big hero. Churchill would be smiling. When you see the movie you’ll understand.”
