Artemis Will Be Heard In New Arrow Season 5 Trailer

With just nine days to go until the season premiere of Arrow, The CW has opted to tease us with yet another new promo video. While this one is rather brief and may not seem altogether different from preceding trailers, do know that some new bits of footage are peppered throughout. In fact, I highly recommend rewatching and pausing this one at certain points to catch everything.

The backbone of this particular trailer happens to be the various new recruits Green Arrow has taken under his wing – or bow, if you prefer. Although Wild Dog and Mr. Terrific share some of the spotlight, our attention turns to a burgeoning young female vigilante.

Many of you no doubt remember season 4’s controversial episode “Canary Cry,” which put Black Canary/Laurel Lance to rest. In it, we met the young Evelyn Sharp (played by Madison McLaughlin), who decided to take up the Black Canary mantle regardless of whether anyone else in Star City wanted her to or not.

While the footage of her letting loose the Canary Cry may very well be from last season, seeing her among the team hints at her evolution into Artemis. Her costume looks like somewhat of a hybrid between that of Black Canary’s and Young Justice’s Artemis. Whether or not the producers have found a delicate balance and plan to stick to it or develop her into the beloved teen hero remains to be seen.

For more information regarding the upcoming season, be sure to check out the official synopsis below:

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea. Oliver returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs of his family and fighting injustice. As the Green Arrow, he protects his city with the help of former soldier John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), his vigilante-trained sister Thea Queen (Willa Holland), former police captain Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) and brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum).

Newly appointed Mayor Oliver Queen finds himself challenged as he fights on two fronts for the future of Star City. With Diggle back in the military and Thea adamant about hanging up her hood as Speedy, Team Green Arrow is down to just Oliver and Felicity – but they’re no longer the only vigilantes in town. Green Arrow’s public defeat of Damien Darhk at the end of Season Four has inspired a new crop of masked heroes to step up and defend the city, though their painful inexperience makes them obstacles, rather than allies, in the field. The arrival of a deadly new adversary will force Oliver to confront questions about his own legacy, both as mayor and as the Green Arrow.

Arrow returns for its fifth season on Wednesday, October 5 on The CW.
