Mark Millar Is Eyeing John Cena For The Title Role In Big Screen Superior Adaptation

It's been a while since we've heard anything about Superior, with the last major update coming back in January when it was revealed that Brandon and Phillip Murphy had been hired to pen the screenplay. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Superior, with the last major update coming back in January when it was revealed that Brandon and Phillip Murphy had been hired to pen the screenplay. However, Mark Millar has now taken to Twitter to suggest a new leading man, and it seems like the comic book adaptation is gaining traction as a result.

Millar has his eye on WWE Superstar and actor John Cena to take on the lead role and had the following to say via Twitter this weekend.

“Just watched @amyschumer’sTrainwreck & it’s my fave comedy in YEARS. @JohnCena so funny in it I literally just requested him for SUPERIOR. New draft for Superior script this week, Matthew producing & a perfect director lined up. Thanks for the follow, @JohnCena. Let’s do this!”

That’s a pretty positive update, and even WWE.com has picked up on the story. That doesn’t mean it will happen of course (Cena’s busy schedule could make him taking on a lead role in a big superhero movie somewhat tricky), but it’s hard to think of anyone better suited to the role of Superior now that Millar has put this idea in the heads of fans.

For those of you unfamiliar with the story, Superior – which was written by Millar and pencilled by Leinil Yu – focuses on a 12 year old boy with multiple sclerosis who is granted one wish by an alien monkey. He chooses to become his favourite comic book movie superhero, Superior, but there’s a massive twist along the way, and things play out much differently than expected.

Superior is one of many Millarworld adaptations in various stages of development, but this one feels like it’s long overdue and a leading man like Cena could ensure that it finally comes to fruition. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
