After the massive success that Adele had with her album, 21, it was hard to imagine that anything she did after could ever top it. Since 2011, she has become an icon with multiple Platinum singles, including her theme for Skyfall and “Rolling In The Deep,” while 21 ended up dominating the Billboard 200 charts for years. 21 managed to sell over eleven and a half million records as of last February, and it’s been the only Diamond certified record released since Usher’s 2004 album, Confessions – well, until now.
Adele’s recent album, 25, was born to break records, and it’s the latest album to get the honor of a Diamond certification, having moved over ten million units in the United States alone. Honestly, it’s not a surprise: 25 hit the eight million sales mark back in February and shattered the first week sales record upon its release last year. It was only a matter of time before the album would become the singer’s second Diamond record.
Diamond records are simply a thing of the past, which makes Adele’s historic run all the more impressive. Though 21 may have more records sold as of now, the album took two years to sell ten million copies while 25 took less than one. With the holiday season upcoming, her hit, “Send My Love (To Your New Lover),” still commanding the Mainstream Top 40, and a tour that doesn’t end for another two months, 25’s best days may still be up ahead.
