Ever since breaking into the Hollywood big leagues with the release of Titanic two decades ago, Leonardo DiCaprio has been an avid campaigner for environmental awareness across the board. It’s a timely topic that even cropped up during the actor’s Oscar acceptance speech – “Climate change is real, it is happening right now” – and a passion that is allowed to fully unfold with the debut trailer of Before the Flood.
Surfacing online following its debut at Toronto International Film Festival, the documentary – one that hails from DiCaprio’s own Appian Way Productions – has a remarkable amount of star power attached, and we’re not just talking about the big-name talking heads.

Because although naysayers and non-believers continue to brush global warming under the rug in the name of politics and corporate interests, the devastating ecological, environmental and ultimately cultural impact of climate change cannot be overstated. Is Leonardo DiCaprio the best activist to drum up interest in the issue, what with his luxurious lifestyle, private jets and yachts? We’ll leave that one to you.
Before the Flood will open in select theaters across New York and LA on October 21, before airing via National Geographic on October 30.
