As Suicide Squad continues to confound naysayers, its latest feat sees it achieve yet another box office milestone. Impressively enough, it has usurped the first Iron Man film to become the 50th highest grossing movie of all-time in the United States.

The David Ayer directed film starring the likes of Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), and Jared Leto (The Joker) sees the “Worst Heroes Ever” currently laughing all the way to the bank with a handsome $318,584,857 domestic gross, effectively dethroning Iron Man’s $318,412,101 take. It is quite interesting to note that Robert Downey Jr.’s first outing as Shellhead eclipsed his second, at least in a domestic sense, with the sophomore effort having earned $312,433,331.

Despite Suicide Squad proving to be quite leggy at the box office, the stone’s throw to surpass movies such as Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (#46 with $330,360,194) and Guardians of the Galaxy (#45 with $333,176,600) may prove to be a little difficult – but not impossible – as the supervillain led film is now at the point where it’s pulling in only a few million on a weekly basis.

In case you were wondering how Suicide Squad is doing globally, it currently boasts an impressive gross of $731,584,857. While I expect that number to also climb a bit before the flick exits cinemas, odds are that it likely won’t surpass Guardians of the Galaxy ($773,312,399) worldwide. Had Suicide Squad been released in China, we would be having a different conversation.

With this kind of success, it really comes as no surprise that either a Suicide Squad sequel or Harley Quinn spinoff is expected to arrive in theaters in either 2018 or 2019.
