Daniel Craig Remains “First Choice” For Next James Bond Movie

Daniel Craig is, "without question," still first choice to headline the next James Bond movie, according to executive producer Callum McDougall.

Despite Daniel Craig’s general indifference to Bond 25 – something the British actor has been vocal about in the past, even reportedly turning down exorbitant contract agreements – Craig is still “absolutely the first choice” to headline the next James Bond film when the time calls.

Word comes by way of the BBC, where Callum McDougall appeared on Radio 4’s Today programme. It was here that the franchise veteran – McDougall has executive produced nine Bond movies in total, including Craig’s quartet: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre – revealed that despite reports to the contrary, series producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are working to lock down Daniel Craig for at least one more outing as the famed 00 agent.

“I know they’re hoping for him to come back,” McDougall told the BBC, before stressing that Daniel Craig is “without question” the number one candidate to carry the franchise forward, despite intense speculation that Tom Hiddleston is being readied to supplant Craig in the title role. No development on that front just yet, and it looks as though Broccoli and Wilson are more keen to secure the future of Daniel Craig than to entertain the thought of drafting in a new agent altogether.

Providing a last-minute U-turn, we do know that Skyfall and Spectre director Sam Mendes has officially bowed out of the James Bond franchise for good, while there has even been chatter that, in a bid to modernize the series for the 21st century, MGM and the Powers That Be will gender-swap the role and enlist X-Files stalwart Gillian Anderson.
