Due to close the book on Starz’s swashbuckling drama on January 29, when the Treasure Island prequel series will be returning for a fourth and final 10-episode run, the sombre snippet sees our band of pirates waging war in the West Indies. The times, they are a-changing, and considering that the enticing synopsis for Black Sails season 4 portends bloodshed on the beaches of New Providence Island, long-time fans of the network’s pirate drama ought to strap in for what will surely be a thrilling conclusion.

A new threat is on the horizon, it seems, which forces Toby Stephens’ Captain Flint to spring into action. A former navy officer and London gentleman, the arc of Stephens’ bearded lead has been fascinating to watch pan out – chequered past and all – and those who have stuck with Black Sails through times thick and thin can look forward to Flint’s final outing. Indeed, if the morbid first poster teed up a satisfyingly dark finale, this teaser drives home that point and then some.

Have a gander at the official synopsis below in anticipation of the show’s return early next year.

In the wake of Charles Town, the world lives in fear of Captain Flint. But when his campaign of terror crosses over into madness, it falls to John Silver to locate the man within the monster. Meanwhile, with Eleanor Guthrie gone, Jack Rackham and Captain Charles Vane struggle to secure Nassau for the ages. All will be tested when a new threat arrives. It knows them. It understands them. And in the blink of an eye, it will turn them against each other.

Black Sails is set for its curtain call on January 29, 2017. The only question now is, will you be tuning in for the show’s final ten-episode voyage?
