Marvel’s Doctor Strange will feature the big screen debut of Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), who adopts the mantle of Night Nurse in the comic books after she takes it upon herself to spend her evenings patching up New York City’s crop of superheroes. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple is currently doing the exact same thing on Marvel’s Netflix shows.
This character – who is actually an amalgamation of the comic book version of Claire Temple and the original Night Nurse, Linda Carter – has established herself as an invaluable ally to Luke Cage, Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and is set to continue her nocturnal medicinal activities right up until she joins them in The Defenders. McAdams’ Palmer is a doctor in the movie and could also travel down the same path at some point – but is there room for two Night Nurses in the Marvel cinematic and TV universes?
Kevin Feige was asked about this during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, and revealed that there are no plans for Christine Palmer to become Night Nurse… not yet, anyway.
“I will say that that story line does not play into the movie, [but] it’s just as much fun for us as it is for the fans to speculate about that.”
To be fair, the likes of The Avengers are not really in any dire need of a character like this, so it makes more sense that Claire continues her good work on the small screen, stitching NYC’s finest back together after their much more brutal and bloody confrontations.
