The entirety of Frictional Games’ nightmarish Amnesia series is coming to PlayStation 4 next month, the developer has announced via Sony’s PlayStation Blog. Due to be made available digitally from November 22 for $29.99, the so-called Amnesia: Collection will include three games: Amnesia: The Dark Descent, A Machine For Pigs and Amnesia: Justine, all of which have one sole aim – to turn you into a nervous wreck.
Frictional’s creative director Thomas Grip says that the studio had always wanted to bring the series to consoles, but despite having been “close to making it happen” on numerous occasions, the deals either fell through or time restraints scuppered any chances of a port.
That’s all about to change next month, of course. Chances are, if you’ve never had the chance to play an Amnesia game due to the original releases being PC-only, you’ve still seen or heard of the series by way of numerous Let’s Play videos and the like.
The success of the first game – The Dark Descent – released in 2010 led to a sequel being developed by The Chinese Room: A Machine For Pigs. The latter title diverged quite drastically from the original, but still enjoyed a successful launch.
The third game included in the bundle – Amnesia: Justine – is a shorter affair than the other two, and was made as part of a promotion for Valve’s Portal 2. “Justine is a shorter game, taking the form of a series of trials and is heavily inspired by films such as Saw and the historical persona of Elizabeth Bathory,” says Grip.
