Former wrestler-turned-superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is circling back to his formative years in the ring for his latest project. Variety has learned that Johnson has agreed terms to develop a comedy series based on his early wrestling career, and his relationship with former WWE head writer, Brian Gewirtz.

The outlet goes on to reveal that Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions will foster the TV project, partnering with Will Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez banner. Meanwhile, Andrew Gurland (Married) has been tapped to pen the pilot.

Pitched as a “behind-the-scenes look at a fictional professional wrestling outfit,” the as-yet-untitled series chronicles the working partnership between both Johnson and Gewirtz, who were described as having a “one-of-a-kind odd couple relationship” during the early days of WWE.

No word yet on when the single-cam, hour-long dramedy will fire up production, but you can check in on Johnson’s official Instagram message, below.

EXCLUSIVE: Our @sevenbucksprod teams up with Will Ferrell’s #GarySanchezProductions and @FOXTV to create a comedy based off of the real life wrestling experiences of myself and former @WWE Head Writer, Brian Gewirtz (who’s now our @sevenbucksprod’s SVP of Television). Brian and I formed an unlikely duo back in 1999 when he first joined WWE and became my writing partner. We’ve always said the entertaining show we put on every night in front of thousands of fans, paled in comparison to the entertaining show that took place BEHIND THE CURTAIN with all the colorful characters we did business with over the years. Our guy @gurlanding will write and big shout to Academy Award winner director/writer Adam McKay for partnering up on this one. This’ll be fun!! #ThoseEarlyDays #JohnsonGewirtz #LetTheGoodTimesRoll

It’s still early, early days on this new wrestling comedy, but we’ll be keeping track of it as it nears development. Looking into 2017, and Dwayne Johnson has lined up a string of high-profile releases, including Fast 8 (April 14) Baywatch (May 17), and Sony’s Jumanji sequel (July 28).
