If you’ve come into contact with any of Larry Charles’ previous creative efforts – Borat, Brüno, and The Dictator to name but three – you’ll no doubt have a fair idea of what to expect going into the release of Army of One.

It stars Nicolas Cage as Gary Faulkner, a patriotic ex-con and unemployed handyman who’s described as a “modern-day Don Quixote.” That’s because, while down in the dumps, Cage’s bumbling protagonist receives a divine intervention from god himself (Russell Brand), who orders him to travel to the Middle East with a simple, borderline suicidal mission: execute Osama bin Laden.

Equipped with a measly sword purchased from a home shopping TV channel and little else, the results are frankly hilarious, and during his crusade, Faulkner actually made tracks to Pakistan 11 times in total. We know this because his ill-advised journey was documented in Chris Heath’s GQ article six years ago, and Charles is perhaps the perfect director to craft a biting, satirical account of one man’s obsession to take down the former founder of al-Qaeda.

Army of One has been slated to arrive via select theaters and digital HD on November 4. It’ll then expand to Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, and on demand on November 15. Wendi McLendon-Covey, Paul Scheer and Rainn Wilson also star.

Gary Faulkner (Cage) is an ex-con, unemployed handyman, and modern day Don Quixote who receives a vision from God (Brand) telling him to capture Osama Bin Laden. Armed with only a single sword purchased from a home-shopping network, Gary travels to Pakistan to complete his mission. While on his quest, Gary encounters old friends back home in Colorado, the new friends he makes in Pakistan, the enemies he makes at the CIA – and even God and Osama themselves. Wendi McLendon-Covey, Rainn Wilson, and Paul Scheer also star in this hilarious tale of patriotism and one man’s quest for justice.
