Gearbox Software’s Borderlands: The Handsome Collection has gone free-to-play on Xbox One. From today until October 30, the wacky FPS compilation can be downloaded without dropping a single cent, with all game progress and Achievements saved if you choose to make a purchase following the end of the promotion.

If you do decide to take the plunge, you should know that if you buy the Handsome Collection during the free period, you’ll enjoy a 60% discount from the usual asking price.

Included in the bundle are Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!which were originally released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The original Borderlands, for whatever reason, isn’t included, although Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford said a port could be possible in the future if the Collection ends up being “wildly successful.”

All DLC and add-ons released for both titles is included in the Handsome Collection, with both games supporting four-player split-screen. If you’d rather player over Xbox Live but don’t have Gold, not to worry – online play is free over the entire weekend too, so there’s literally no excuse.

Gearbox has gone relatively silent on the future of the series ever since the release of Borderlands: The Collection. Whether or not a Borderlands 3 is in the works remains to be seen, but we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed.
