Production Is A Go On Wes Anderson’s New Stop-Motion Film

It has been a while - too long, by all measures - since we have heard from director Wes Anderson. Although his new stop-motion film was announced last year, there's been very little said about it since then. In a recent interview with GQ (via Collider), however, Anderson confirmed that he's working on the still-untitled film, with production already in process.

It has been a while – too long, by all measures – since we’ve heard from director Wes Anderson. Although his new stop-motion film was announced last year, there’s been very little said about it since then. In a recent interview with GQ (via Collider), however, Anderson confirmed that he’s working on the still-untitled film, with production already in process.

Anderson’s new film is a “dog-centric” story that will feature the vocal talents of Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Murray, Bryan Cranston and Bob Balaban, among (hopefully) others in the director’s ever-growing acting stable. In the GQ interview, Anderson let drop that he needed to get back to work since he had a “long list of e-mails from people on the set whom I now need to address.” Yeah, GQ. Let him get back to work.

Although a film that focuses on the lives of dogs is not exactly groundbreaking, Anderson is always dependable for doing something unique with straight-forward concepts. The last time he worked in stop-motion, he tackled a Roald Dahl story and made it very much his own – it sounds like this time he’s back in his own territory. Hopefully we’ll get more information as the film goes through production – I would at least like to know how Anderson is going to tackle an idea that has already been done more than a few times before.

But because this is stop-motion, that means that we have a very long to wait before we see a new Wes Anderson movie. Without knowing exactly how far along he is in production, it’s unlikely to be ready before the end of 2017 at the earliest. It’s tough, but I can probably wait that long if it’s going to be a good film. Can you?
