Almost a decade has passed since viewers bid adieu to Will & Grace, but it seems NBC is in the midst of negotiating a deal that could herald a new, one-off season.

First reported by Deadline, the outlet claims that the network is drafting up early plans following the huge success of the show’s election-themed reunion mini-episode. Since its debut on September 26, the political 10-minute special has attracted more than 6.2 million viewers online, signalling that there is still a demand for Eric McCormack and Debra Messing’s titular characters.

Hatched by David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, Will & Grace first premiered in ’98 and went on to become a comedy staple, collecting scores of Emmy awards and nominations throughout its eight season run. Though it attracted some criticism at the outset, the sitcom was praised for its portrayal of homosexual characters, and is still to this day one of the most successful shows to feature gay characters in principal roles. Sean Hayes (Jack McFarland) and Megan Mullally (Karen Walker) also starred, and will surely be involved in negotiations.

As Deadline notes, little is known about the potential avenue NBC will pursue. Unlike its comedic brethren such as FriendsSeinfeld and Frasier, Will & Grace doesn’t hold a streaming deal for its library of episodes. That said, with the imminent Gilmore Girls and talk of a That’s So Raven spinoff, TV revivals continue to be all the rage, but will NBC strike a deal? Stay tuned for more.
