Paramount, Universal and Legendary aren’t the only studios in Hollywood that have taken to the concept of a writers’ room; Variety brings word today that Warner Bros. has drafted in an assembly of screenwriting talent for Sherlock Holmes 3.

Among those selected are Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Justin Malen (Baywatch), Rogue One scribe Gary Whitta, Geneva Dworet-Robertson (Tomb Raider) and Kieran Fitzgerald, whose last credit was for Oliver Stone’s button-pressing Snowden. That’s quite the cast of names, and though it’s often the case that a studio will recruit a crack team of scribes to fine-tune a franchise, Variety states that the idea behind Sherlock Holmes 3 is to extract all the possible ideas for the upcoming threequel, before deciding which is best to take the franchise forward.

And we do mean franchise. Robert Downey Jr., who has headlined the previous two installments as the famed sleuth, is said to be involved as a producer, and given that the Avengers star has teased a new string of Sherlock movies beyond number three, don’t be too surprised if some of those ideas dreamed up by Perlman, Whitta and Co. are shelved for future installments. Either way, as Warner’s plans begin to take shape, it’ll mean that when the studio really does issue the go-ahead on Sherlock 3, the script will be in good nick. At least, that’s the idea.

Sherlock Holmes 3 is without a release date, but fans can at least take solace in the fact that the sequel is very much moving forward at Warner. Solving the screenplay mystery will now take precedence.
