After knocking’em dead in his interview in the season finale of NBC’s The Office, James Spader has officially joined the cast of the hit comedy. NBC announced today that the former star of Boston Legal will reprise his role as Robert California when the series returns this fall. However, Spader is not the new boss of the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin/Saber.

According to NBC’s press release James Spader’s Robert, who showed off his creepy manipulative charms in the season finale, will have by the time the series returns in the fall, taken over the Scranton branch and quickly manipulated his way into replacing Kathy Bates‘ Jo Bennett as CEO of Saber. Bates was giving up her recurring role as Jo Bennett anyway in order to focus on season tow of her legal drama Harry’s Law.

Does this mean there is still an opening for a boss at the Scranton Branch? Find out when The Office returns this fall on NBC.
