As much as fans want it to happen, it really doesn’t seem like we’re ever going to see The Defenders standing alongside The Avengers on the big screen. That’s been blamed on scheduling issues, but with rumours about some sort of divide between the film and television divisions of Marvel, chances are a crossover simply isn’t on the cards for the foreseeable future.

However, while there may not be any plans for the heroes to meet each other, another very interesting sort of mashup would be to see some Marvel Studios filmmakers working on these shows.

James Gunn is currently busy putting the finishing touches on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but during a recent Q&A session on Facebook, he was asked what it would take for him to consider helming a series set in the world of The Defenders on Netflix. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like we should expect to see Gunn lend his talents to the likes of Daredevil or Jessica Jones.

“If it was under the right circumstances, maybe. But it would never be one that is preexisting; it would have to be the pilot of a new show.”

Gunn working on a future Marvel TV series would be amazing, but chances are he’ll next move on to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so whether or not he’d have time is another matter altogether. It’s possible he could squeeze a single episode in, of course, but who knows what character it would be for.
